Making Critical Medical Information Accessible Worldwide
Lingua Franca Translations is supporting the LARS Collaborative, an international network of healthcare professionals and researchers committed to improving the quality of life of patients living with Low Anterior Resection Syndrome (LARS), a condition affecting bowel function following rectal cancer surgery.
Working with a collaborative whose members include specialists affiliated with Cleveland Clinic, Jewish General Hospital, and McGill University, Lingua Franca is managing the multilingual production of comprehensive patient education materials across 10 languages.

The Challenge
Preparing complex medical educational materials for international audiences requires more than translating words. Detailed clinical explanations, medical illustrations, patient diaries, tables, and specialized terminology must be carefully integrated into each language version while preserving the structure and readability of the original.
Our Solution
Lingua Franca provides specialized Desktop Publishing (DTP), multilingual formatting, content integration, and project coordination for the LARS patient education booklet and accompanying resources.
The project encompasses English and nine additional languages: Italian, Greek, Portuguese, Norwegian, Japanese, Flemish (Dutch), Romanian, Hungarian, and Czech.
Our work focuses on adapting complex medical layouts, accommodating language specific text expansion, maintaining consistency across educational materials, and coordinating updates from international medical contributors.
The Impact
This international initiative represents an important step toward making patient education more accessible to diverse linguistic communities.
Through specialized multilingual production and careful document adaptation, Lingua Franca is helping support the LARS Collaborative's mission to empower patients, educate healthcare
